Sportstech innovation is exploding around the world changing the way athletes are trained, the way fans interact, and creating opportunities for never before seen products and business models.

SPIN Lab, developed by the Hype Foundation, is a global sports-specific startup accelerator that delivers a sports-specific program providing access to global mentors, investors and experienced hosts to fast-track promising local startups onto the world stage. SPIN Lab leverages HYPE’s existing sportstech platform which already engages over 8,000 startups and 20,000 sports innovators across the world.

Player performance, AR/VR, fan engagement, wearables, media, smart stadiums, player health and safety, and esports/fantasy sports are all fertile areas for disruption that will benefit through participation in HYPE UQ SPIN Lab.

The University of Queensland has been selected by The HYPE Foundation to be the exclusive host for SPIN Lab in Australia, and will also support startups from surrounding regions. If you are from outside of Australia, the most appropriate SPIN Lab site will be determined by HYPE during the application process.

Sports startups can apply with up to 12 selected for the first program. SPIN Lab Australia balances on-site and remote participation, sports-specific curriculum and sports business mentoring from global mentors.

The program culminates in a pitch event at the Commonwealth Games where prize money of $25,000 is available from the University of Queensland. No equity is taken in the initial program.

The program is proudly supported by the Queensland State Government.
